A major goal of our work is the development of a summative assessment that can be used to measure pre-service elementary teachers’ content knowledge for teaching (CKT) about matter and its interactions.

As part of our research study, we also developed a score report to help elementary science teacher educators understand the assessment results from their pre-service elementary teachers’ responses on the CKT assessment instrument. In our study, the pre-service elementary teachers took the assessment at two time points – at the beginning (pretest) and at the end (posttest) of the semester—and the example score report provides results for both these time points.
